About Us
Hawcoat Park Sports and Social Club is a multi-sports complex providing a range of different sports and activities
for members all on one site and for a wide range of both genders from children to old age pensioners.
Football, Rugby Union, Junior Rugby League, Cricket, Crown Green Bowling, Archery, Badminton, Table Tennis,
and Pistol Shooting, are all core activities for club members and visiting teams alike. This is a unique sporting
facility being the largest single provider of sporting activities in the Furness area which together with its
excellent social amenities provides a wide range of community activities. The premises are used for many charitable,
sporting and social functions including-:
- Schools and colleges for sporting and academic examination purposes,
- The public sector organisations, Police, Fire, Barrow Borough Sports Council when engaging with the communities youth
- Chetwynd School for Tennis, Rugby, Cricket and Football.
- Barrow Rotary Club for their schools Science and Technology competition,
- Royal Navy for use of all the sporting facilities
- Keswick to Barrow Charity Walk.
- Motor cycle exhibition
- St Mary’s Hospice Charity fun run
- Barrow Athletic club home cross country fixture
- Private individuals wishing to celebrate special occasions.
- Local organisations holding prize giving and charity nights.
- Soccer and Rugby coaching sessions.
- Line dancing, keep fit sessions.
- Away days and conferencing by BAE Systems and other local organisations.
- Sportsman`s Dinners.
- Quiz nights.
The Club is uniquely placed, having good car parking facilities and an extensive entertainment license this enables us to promote
a complete range of events and activities for organisations and individuals alike.
The sporting sections are managed by independent committees who have full membership of their National Governing Bodies and who
provide qualified coaches together with organising teams to play in structured leagues.
A dedicated committee drawn from the membership manage the facility and being CASC (Community Amateur Sports Club) registered
their objectives are:-
- To promote, manage and develop the sporting, social and charitable activities of its members
and the local community and to improve social inclusion and cohesion by actively encouraging minority groups,
i.e. hosting multi-cultural events and disabled involvement.
- To provide facilities for and promote participation of the whole community in the various
sports and social activities catered for.
- To provide equal opportunities for successful participation by all sections and levels of
competency of the community to aid both physical and mental personal health improvements i.e. reducing the
likelihood of obesity, diabetes and heart disease.
- To promote and maintain the highest standards, technical competence, sporting ethics and safety in sport.
- To contribute to the reduction in crime/anti-social behaviour by providing sporting facilities,
activities and events for young people.
- To provide opportunities for people to learn new skills, gain qualifications and confidence to enhance
their employment prospects i.e. sports coaching, sports development, ground maintenance.
- To seek opportunities to partner local businesses and organisations to promote sport and fitness within the community.
Services
Hawcoat Park Sports and Social Club provides the following services:-
- Participation for all members in a variety of sporting and social activities.
- Involvement in sporting teams managed by their own sectional committees who organise teams to
participate in local and national leagues.
- Supervision by qualified coaches who are intent on achieving "Club Mark" standards of sporting
ability, conduct and safety for all participants.
- Codes of practice whereby all members are obliged to abide by the Club Child Protection Policy,
The Health and Safety Policy and the rules laid down in The Club Constitution.
- Availability for hire of the main hall having the capacity to cater for up to 250 guests for dinners,
wedding functions, parties, etc.
- Hosting for large charitable functions/events for example:- The
Keswick to Barrow
Walk, Fireworks Display,
Motor Cycle and Scooter Exhibition, Bowling Competitions, Multi-cultural events etc.
- Availability for hire of facilities for Conferencing and Team Building activities.
- Sale of alcohol, soft drinks and food.
